Coach Waters is the Men’s Head Cross Country Coach and Distance Track Coach at Bridgeland High School.  Coach Waters has been coaching for 25 years from the middle school to high school to collegiate levels most of that time in Texas.  Most recently at Bridgeland, Coach Waters has coached the Bears to 3 consecutive Region 2 6A cross country titles and 2 consecutive 3rd place podium appearances at the UIL State Meet plus the outdoor 3200 State champion in 2024 and the 1600m runner up in 2025 and the Cross Country runner up in 2024 and 3rd place in 2025.

Coach James Higham  Kingwood Park High School  Professional Background  Coach James Higham brings over 15 years of competitive coaching experience in Track and Field to Kingwood Park High School. His deep knowledge of the sport, combined with his personal athletic background, makes him an exceptional mentor for student-athletes pursuing excellence in pole vaulting.  Athletic Achievement  As a pole vaulter at New Caney High School, Coach Higham achieved a personal record of 15'6", demonstrating the technical skill and athletic ability required to compete at an elite level. This firsthand experience allows him to guide his athletes with credibility and insight.  Coaching Success  Throughout his 15-year coaching career, Coach Higham has developed elite pole vaulters from multiple high schools across the Greater Houston Area, including District, Regional, and State  qualifiers from Porter, Aldine, Grand Oaks, and Kingwood Park High School. His coaching philosophy emphasizes proper technique, mental toughness, and consistent training.    Over the past seven years, Coach Higham has led multiple teams to the state competition in Austin, establishing himself as one of the region's premier pole vault coaches and a valuable resource for developing young talent.   Notable Athletes  Coach Higham's athletes have achieved remarkable heights in competition:  Sophia Kowalski (Grand Oaks High School) — 13' in 2023 Silas Zimmerman (Grand Oaks High School) — 16'0"-2022

Coach Chad Cooper is a proud graduate of Texas A&M University and brings 12 years of coaching experience to the program including stops at Bryan St. Joseph, Montgomery High School and Lindale High School. Over the past seven years as head track coach at Lindale High School coaching girls for 5 years and the boys for 2 years, he has built a championship culture rooted in discipline, hard work, and team unity.  Coach Cooper led his team to a state championship this past season, capping off an impressive record that also includes three district titles, two area championships, and one regional championship. This past season included a 4x4 State championship, a 4x1 State Runner Up Relay, along with athletes winning 1st and 2nd in the 400m and 3rd in the 200.  His passion for developing athletes both on and off the track continues to elevate the program and inspire excellence at every level.

LeVar Brown- Cinco Ranch

 LeVar Brown is in his fourteenth year of coaching at the high school level. He has been able to spend time in many areas around the state; coaching at Odessa Permian, Conroe, Cuero, Jasper, Katy Paetow, Willis, and Katy Cinco Ranch. He has been able to coach jumpers to at least the regional meet at every school he has coached at as well as former athletes becoming state runner-ups/champion the following years after leaving schools (Permian/Cuero). In 2019 LeVar coached two athletes to the state meet who had never participated in the events prior to that season; one in long jump (boy) and one in triple jump (girl). The long jumper went on to win the Texas UIL State Championship in 2019 and was number one in the country (LJ) and tied for number two in the country (TJ) in 2020. The Triple Jumper was top five in the country during the 2020 season and went on to become state champion in 2021.   After leaving Paetow following the 2022 season, LeVar went to Willis High School where he had the opportunity to help grow the track program there. He had the opportunity to coach Long Jump, Triple Jump, High Jump, Hurdles, as well as help with the sprinters as well. Many jumpers there showed vast improvement in a short period of time. He is currently the head girls basketball coach at Cinco Ranch High School where he helps assist Coach Drew Armendinger and Coach Stephanie Thapar, The Cinco Ranch Horizontal coaches, from time to time.

**Coach Elton Ervin** is a Texas-based high school track and field coach known for his leadership and success in developing elite sprint relay teams and overall program excellence. ([MileSplit United States][1])  ### 📌 **Who He Is**  * Elton Ervin is the **head track and field coach at Atascocita High School** in the Houston area. ([MileSplit United States][1]) * He gained significant attention in the track community for guiding Atascocita’s boys **4×100 relay team to a national record time of 38.92**, breaking a long-standing mark. ([MileSplit United States][1])  ### 🏆 **Coaching Background**  * Although 2024 was his **first year as a head coach**, Elton brought years of experience as an assistant at multiple Texas high schools including Atascocita and Humble Summer Creek. ([MileSplit United States][1]) * Before becoming head coach at Atascocita, he spent a decade contributing to programs where athletes achieved state championships and high-level performances. ([MileSplit United States][1]) * He comes from a **track coaching family**—his twin brother, Shelton Ervin, is also a highly respected track coach in the area. ([Chron][2])  ### 🏃 **Personal Athletic Roots**  * Elton was a competitive high school track athlete at **Houston Westbury High School**, where he competed in sprint events and witnessed historic relay performances that later inspired his coaching career. David Cooper is a  throws coach with over two decades of experience developing high-level student-athletes. He is currently in his 13th year at Seven Lakes High School, following eight successful years at Huntsville High School. Throughout his career, Coach Cooper has had the privilege of working with exceptional throwers at both programs, helping guide athletes to district, regional, and state-level success.

Ran Track and Cross Country at SFA.  Coached at Brenham from 2002 to 2019 and at Smithson Valley from 2019 until present.  Coached 14 teams to the State Meet in cross country.  52 individual or relay Regional champions in cross country and track.  Coached 5 state champion events and 2 state meet records.  Coached the 2022 Girls 4 x 400 National Champions and 2023 Girls UIL 5A 4 x 400 State Champions.  Qualified 6 4x400 teams to the state meet in the last 5 years. 2024 UIL 5A State Championship team in Cross Country & 2025 UIL 5A State Runners Up.

I am a University of Nebraska graduate and former Division I track and field athlete. While at Nebraska, I competed as a hurdler and long jumper, specializing in the 400-meter hurdles, where I earned the title of Big Ten Champion. My athletic background reflects years of discipline and the willingness to do the little Things.
